Fire at senior housing complex was extinguished by sprinkler system (Shelton, CT)
A senior housing complex was briefly evacuated after a kitchen fire in an apartment.
According to fire department dispatches, the small fire was knocked down by the apartment's sprinkler system and caused minor damage. No injuries were reported.

Sprinkler system extinguishes restaurant kitchen fire (Sitka, AK)
Fire officials say a sprinkler system saved a downtown building after a fire broke out in a first-floor restaurant. Assistant Fire Chief Al Stevens says a small fire broke out in the kitchen. It triggered a nearby sprinkler which extinguished the fire and saved the restaurant.

Kitchen fire at college dorm controlled by sprinkler system (Philadelphia, PA)
A fire broke out in a fourth floor college dorm room late Saturday evening. According to House Dean Trish Williams, a resident was cooking, and a toaster had set off the fire. University Police Sergeant Lawrence Salotti said the building’s sprinkler system had been activated. All building occupants were evacuated, and there were no injuries.

A cigarette is to blame for a fire at the Best Western Hotel in Forest Grove on Sunday afternoon. Officials said the building's fire sprinkler system activated and stopped that fire from spreading to the rest of the hotel.
Sprinkler system aids firefighters at middle school fire (Hixson, TN)
Firefighters gained access inside the building to turn off the fire alarm and noticed signs of vandalism inside the main office area. At that time, they also heard noises of doors rattling in the building and reported possible suspects inside the building. Firefighters immediately exited the building for safety reasons. Moments later, visible signs of fire were spotted at the right corner of the building. The automatic sprinkler system activated and firefighters extinguished the fire immediately, containing it to the one room.

Apartment kitchen fire extinguished by sprinkler system (Decatur, IL)
Food left cooking on a stove resulted in a small apartment fire. “It was a small fire,” Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Abbott said, “and the sprinkler system (in the apartment) had extinguished it by the time we got there. All we had to do was turn off the sprinkler system valve and ventilate the apartment. It was a successful use of the sprinkler system." No injuries were reported.

A fire at the Lee County Publix is being investigated as arson by Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens’ office. No injuries were reported, and the blaze was extinguished by the store’s sprinkler system. Customers and employees were evacuated.

Sprinklers prove effectiveness in single-family residence fire (San Luis Obispo, CA)
Fire Department personnel responded to a structure fire at a single-family residence. Firefighters found a fire confined to the garage. A single residential sprinkler system activated and held the fire in check until firefighters arrived to completely extinguish the garage and check for hot spots. There were no injuries to fire personnel or the public.

A train conductor noticed flames at an electro-plating business and called 911. By the time firefighters got there, the company's sprinkler system had put a lot of the fire out, and crews were able to manage the rest.

There was no fire or smoke damage beyond the closet. Students living in the hall were safety evacuated and the dorm was reopened to students at 5 a.m.
