An early evening fire erupted in the unit of an apartment when grease caught on fire while the tenant was cooking. The fire flared up, which then activated the fire sprinklers; the sprinklers contained and then eliminated the blaze while the resident and her daughter evacuated the apartment. 

According to Fire Marshal Chuck Swann of the Hendersonville Fire Department, the fire could have been much worse had the sprinkler system not been present to activated immediately. 

"Dry wall (that sustains water damage) can be replaced," he said. "Lives lost to a fire can't."

Keola Park, a Fresno Fire spokesman, said, "The sprinkler did its job, which is good because the structure is connected to a strip mall, and the fire could have spread." 

According to investigators, some money was taken from the restaurant, and the fires were set in separate locations. The investigation remains ongoing.

Sprinkler contains fire to one unit in condominium complex (Conshohocken, PA)

A fire sprinkler activated in the unit of a condominium complex following a fire that began in the fourth floor residence. The sprinkler kept the fire from spreading to any other unit, and firefighters put out the last of the flames. On Thursday at about 2 a.m. a fire broke out in a warehouse used for commercial laundry services. Fire crews responded to the scene to find smoke coming from the building. The fire sprinkler system within the building activated on the flames and kept them from spreading, allowing firefighters to quickly extinguish the remaining fire. 

Boise Fire Marshal Romeo Gervais said, "Fire sprinkler systems can react quickly and dramatically reduce the heat, flames, and smoke produced in a fire. That's what happened this morning, protecting much of the structure and possibly preventing additional injuries."

The fire's cause is under investigation.

Supermarket fire squelched by sprinkler (London, UK)

During the early morning hours of March 31st, a fire began in a supermarket in the United Kingdom. The flames began in the loading dock area, and the heat then activated the sprinkler which kept the fire under control until fire crews arrived.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said, "Thankfully this building was fitted with sprinklers, which helped to prevent fire the fire from spreading into the supermarket and causing more serious damage."

There were no injuries, and an investigation is underway for the fire's cause.
