Sprinkler system aids firefighters in strip mall fire at restaurant (Tucson, AZ)

The blaze was at the Plaza del Oro strip mall, 6462 N Oracle Road. Several people called 911, reporting smoke coming from the building.  The main body of the fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system, and crews extinguished the remainder in 18 minutes.

Sprinkler system extinguishes apartment fire (Sandusky, OH)

About 11:30 a..m. Friday Sandusky firefighters received a call of smoke at the apartment complex at 215 E. Shoreline Drive, said Sandusky firefighter Steve Rucker. They arrived to find a fire had been extinguished by the sprinkler system.

College campus fire contained by sprinkler system (Iowa City, IA)

A fire began in the Iowa City Chemical Building at 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24. The flames began on the building's fifth floor and were controlled by the school's fire sprinkler system. No one was injured in the fire. Investigators believe the fire's cause was the ignition of chemicals, but it is still under investigation.

Sprinkler system puts out grocery store fire (Canton, MA)

Fire officials believe that a fire that occurred in a grocery store on Wednesday morning was not suspicious, although it's cause is being investigated. The fire likely began in the produce section, and the store's fire sprinklers helped to eliminate the flames. There were no injuries reported.

Sprinkler system aids firefighters at shopping center fire (Chesapeake, VA)

Chesapeake fire crews were notified of a fire at a shopping center at 7:25 p.m., and upon arriving to the scene, they found heavy smoke located in the storage room near the back of the shopping center. 

By 7:40 p.m., the fire was controlled by both the building's fire sprinkler system as well the firefighters. The fire's cause remains under investigations. No injuries were reported.

Damage minimized at strip mall thanks to fire sprinklers (Kent, WA)

At about 1:00 a.m., Ladder 74 of the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority responded to a sprinkler water flow alarm at a local strip mall. The fire, which had set off the alarm, was held in check by the sprinkler system until fire crews arrived. The damage could have been much worse since the adjoining suites share an attic space. 

The fire's cause appears to be a failure of electrical components; there were no injuries reported.

Fire at Archer Daniels Midland plant contained by sprinkler system (Peoria, IL)

Peoria firefighters and police were dispatched shortly after noon to the sprawling ethanol distillery on Edmund Street near the MacArthur Highway Bridge. The blaze began in an area near a grain silo where a worker had been welding, according to police and company officials.  The cause of the blaze has not been officially determined.

ADM spokeswoman Jackie Anderson said the fire started about11:30 a.m. in the facility’s corn processing area and was contained by thesprinkler system, but firefighters were called for additional assistance.  “There were no injuries, and the plant is continuingto run as planned,” Anderson said.

Shopping mall fire controlled by single fire sprinkler (Eureka, CA)

Just before 8:00 a.m. today Humboldt Bay Fire responded a single engine to a reported fire alarm activation at the Bayshore Mall at 3300 Broadway.  Fire personnel searched the area and located a small fire that had been extinguished by a single fire sprinkler head in the back office of the "Gianni For Men" store.  The damage in the office and store was minimal because of the activation of the sprinkler system and early notification of the fire department.  The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears tobe accidental at this time. The Bayshore Mall is open with no interruption toservice.

Fire sprinklers help control fire at Aeropostale store in outlet mall (Simpsonville, KY)

Fire crews were called to the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass at about 2 a.m. Wednesday. Mall spokeswoman Gina Slechta says the fire started in the Aeropostale store.  Simpsonville Fire Chief Ronnie Sowder says an electrical issue caused the fire that started in a light display. Sprinklers in the store, which were originally installed by Dalmatian Fire Inc. in Louisville, Kentucky, helped contain the fire and limit damage to the store.  The Outlet Shoppes spokeswoman says there was no damage to the surrounding buildings, and the mall opened on time the next day.

Sprinkler system saves restaurant from fire, limits fire damage (Erie, PA)

Five fire departments were called to the Golden Corral restaurant just before 9 p.m, according to Erie County 911.  They weretold there was a fire in the restaurant and it was being evacuated.  We spoke to a man who identified himself as a manager, hesays the fire was in the kitchen and set off the sprinkler system which put itout.  There were 10 to 15 customers and 11 employees inside, noinjuries reported.  The manager said the restaurant will be open a little latertoday.

Deck fire at apartment complex extinguished by sprinkler system (Oak Harbor, WA)

No injuries were reported as result of a minor deck fire in Oak Harbor Thursday afternoon. The fire was caused by discarded smoking materials, according to Oak Harbor Fire Department Chief Ray Merrill. The sprinkler system went off and extinguished the fire before it could get inside the apartment complex. “The fire sprinkler system did its job,” Merrill said.  Damage to the deck was minor.

Sprinkler system controls daytime fire at high school (Spartanburg, SC)

A small fire caused the R.D. Anderson Applied Technology Center to close its doors Monday afternoon to students. Fire alarms went off at about 11:15 a.m. Monday after a group of students from Spartanburg districts 4, 5 and 6 left to return to their high schools for lunch.

Sherri Yarborough, director of R.D. Anderson, said staff members saw smoke coming from the laundry room door and evacuated the building. Cynthia Robinson, spokeswoman for District 6, said some minor water damage was expected in the building's new wing, but the sprinklers did their job.

“They worked like a charm,” she said.  R.D. Anderson expects to run on a normalschedule Tuesday.

Kitchen fire at senior high-rise apartment building suppressed with help from sprinkler system (Owensboro, KY)

The call that every Owensboro firefighter fears came in at 12:07 a.m. Saturday: A fire on the 16th floor of Roosevelt House I, 2920 Yale Place.  "It was a kitchen fire," Chief Steve Mitchell said later Saturday. "The sprinkler system had been activated, and we were able to knock the fire down fairly quickly."  But more than 200 senior citizens live in the 18-story building, Owensboro's tallest, and the 911 system was flooded with calls from people needing help evacuating the building, Mitchell said.  There were no serious injuries.there were no serious injuries, he said.

Apartment kitchen fire controlled by sprinkler system (Fontana, CA)

Firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire Saturday morning after a resident reportedly left hot oil unattended.  At about 5:47 a.m., firefighters responded to an apartment fire in the 9200 block of Cypress Avenue. According to a news release from the San Bernardino County Fire Department, a resident had apparently begun to heat up some oil in the stove top and left for a short period, during which time the oil heated up and ignited a fire. The sprinkler system activated and held the fire in check until firefighters arrived, the Fire Department said.

Sprinklers extinguish apartment fire caused by improperly discarded smoking materials (Ashburn, VA)

According to the Loudoun Fire-Rescue, Ashburn emergency crews were dispatched at 8:25 a.m. to 43849 Dodge Terrace where they found smoke conditions in apartment 302. Further investigation found a small fire in the bedroom had been extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. The fire marshal’s office determined the fire was accidental, caused by improperly discarded smoking materials. No injuries were reported.

Sprinklers douse kitchen fire at apartment complex (Northhampton, MA)

A kitchen fire in an apartment Wednesday afternoon at Village Hill Northampton was quickly doused by sprinklers. According to Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Vanasse, the sprinklers put out the fire before firefighters arrived. Vanasse said the fire likely began after a pan was left on a stove, although the cause remains under investigation. The tenant may be able to stay in the apartment, depending on how fast a cleanup crew is contacted, Vanasse said.
